Challenge:
Assess the condition of a corroded Diesel Firewater Conductor Pipe (Caisson) located on an offshore platform. Determine if the caisson remains fit for service, if it does not then design a repair.
Resolution:
UT measurements were taken to determine the remaining wall thickness. The caisson was analyzed for both operational loads and ocean current forces. Fatigue failure was also evaluated due to the cyclic nature of the ocean current forces. The caisson was found to be fit for service and safe to operate for at least one more year.
