The cooling coil for a nuclear power plant requires replacement. HEA was engaged to evaluate a coil design to meet the ASME code requirements for structural adequacy.
Resolution:
Our engineering team used a combination of hand calculations and finite element model analysis to evaluate the cooling coil unit. Seismic, deadweight, thermal, and pressure loads are applied to the model. Due to the large number of nozzle load combinations, the finite element analysis is performed iteratively to obtain the bounding nozzle loads. The final report demonstrates that the coil design satisfies the ASME code requirements.
