New lightning arresters are required at a power plant. HEA was approached to perform an IEEE seismic qualification evaluation to demonstrate dynamic performance compatibility for as-tested versus as-installed configuration.
Our engineering team benchmarked a tested lightning arrester and the stand despite the unusual material and geometry using a structural modeling program. The as-installed arrester support system are then modeled and the seismic accelerations are extracted. The increases are compared against the margin that existed in the test report to demonstrate that the different stand does not invalidate the expected dynamic performance of the arrester.
