Challenge:
To verify the structural adequacy of a motorized aluminum target lift system to support its self-weight, dynamic, and seismic loads. Special attention was required to account for the dynamic vertical movement of the motorized portion of the target lift system.
Resolution:
Our engineering team verified the structural adequacy of the motorized aluminum target lift system for its self-weight with an additional 0.5g vertical dynamic factor to account for the vertical movement of the motorized portion of the target lift system and sitespecific seismic loads. Fatigue due to the cyclic vertical movement of the motorized portion of the target lift system was checked per The Aluminum Association’s “Aluminum Design Manual 2010”.
