Anchorage Assessment and Repair

Challenge:

The anchor bolts of twin 139 feet tall, 12 ftdiameter vertical vessels located inside a refinery are severely corroded. The clientasked us to evaluate the anchorage to determine which bolts are no longer adequate and to design the repair.

Resolution:

Field visits were conducted to note the condition of the anchor bolts. Since the vessels are located in different places within the refinery, the loads into the anchor bolts for the first vessel are evaluated for the original design loads while the second vessel is evaluated for CalARP loads. Sketches were provided for each vessel scaling the repair effort for the two vessels to save on construction costs for the client. Additionally, vendors were sourced to facilitate the repair.
