Challenge:
Hopper Engineering Associates was tasked to evaluate a Bubble Ship used for filming. The goal was to ensure the structure would be capable to withstand the dynamic forces imparted on it during production and to provide modification recommendations when necessary.
Resolution:
The ship’s geometry and member sizes were determined via on-site inspection and used to develop a computer-3D model of the ship. Twelve models were constructed to evaluate the ship at different orientations. Each model was analyzed for various dynamic load combinations. Member stresses were evaluated based on the allowable limits of the materials and modification recommendations were provided to the client.
