Challenge:
A legendary thrash metal band wanted to illuminate their stage using coffin-shaped lighting structures for an upcoming concert tour. The lighting coffins were to be suspended above the stage by guy wires and moved via controls during the show. HEA was asked to evaluate the coffin’s design and provide modifications if necessary.
Resolution:
Our engineering team designed a STAAD model of the coffin’s 24′ x 10.5′ x 2.5′ structural skeleton to determine the forces in the aluminum members. The model was analyzed for various orientations, dynamic loads, and possible single point failures. We recommended incorporating new members into the existing design to strengthen critical regions of the lighting structures.
