Pump Intake Debris Screen Optimization

Challenge:

A refinery client uses seawater as the main supply for plant cooling operations as well as firewater for emergency situations. Depending upon storm activity and currents, significant seaweed and floating debris have been witnessed entering the intake structure. Systems and procedures in place for removing debris and preventing debris entrance into the pump intake were maintenance-intensive and required considerable manual effort. The client wished to modify the screening mechanism to improve safety, reliability, and maintenance costs.
