Challenge:
Seaweed and floating debris regularly bypass the existing filtering screens and clog the intake pumps, which are the primary source of the water supply, at a large refinery. New screens must be designed to filter with higher efficiency and also to allow easier maintenance.
Resolution:
Our engineering team explored various options ranging from mechanical rakes to static screens and presented the concepts to the client. The client chose a combination of concepts. Various selected screen designs were modeled and analyzed. A cost estimate of the off the shelf components was acquired by contacting suppliers and presented to the client.
