Challenge:
A specialized set of jack columns are required to support a ship during construction in a dry dock. The custom jack design must give allow for the non-uniform underside of the vessel, the heavy weight of the ship blocks, height adjustability, as well as provide worker access during construction.
Resolution:
Our engineering team created several computer models to represent the various jack configurations. Each jack tower was analyzed for the estimated maximum vertical and horizontal loads expected during ship construction. Our team provided detailed design drawings to our client suitable for fabrication of the custom jacking columns.
