Challenge:
To verify the structural adequacy of a motorized aluminum target lift system to support its self-weight, dynamic, and seismic loads. Special attention was required to account for the dynamic vertical movement of the motorized portion of the target lift system.
Resolution:
Our engineering team verified the structural adequacy of the motorized aluminum target lift system for its self-weight with an additional 0.5g vertical dynamic factor to account for the vertical movement of the motorized portion of the target lift system and site-specific seismic loads. Fatigue due to the cyclic vertical movement of the motorized portion of the target lift system was checked per The Aluminum Association’s “Aluminum Design Manual 2010”.
