Car Show Exhibit – Evaluation of New Structural Material

Challenge:

Test and analyze a new Dibond material for a local auto show exhibit. Determine if added reinforcement is necessary for the proposed loading of the exhibit.

Resolution:

Utilizing testing equipment at a local university, a compression test was conducted on a sample of the material. Stress and deflection tables were created and the results were compared to an ANSYS model. The data was then checked with the empirical data and it was concluded that extra reinforcement was needed due to excess deflection. An end cap was designed to eliminate the deflection.
