Challenge:
An offshore platform is replacing both of its pedestal cranes. The existing platform structure must be analyzed under the new, larger crane forces and structural modification requirements will be specified.
Resolution:
A computer model was used to evaluate the platform area around each crane with various load cases representing multiple orientations of the boom. Specific cranes were selected and the platform modifications were verified. The purchase, planning, removal of the old cranes, and installation of the new cranes were successfully performed by the client.
