Ship Support Structure and Foundation

Challenge:

A new class of ship being constructed requires analysis of the support structure and the underlying foundation of the dock during construction. The foundation was not originally designed for the weight and load distribution of this new ship. A design was required that would properly support and distribute the weight of the ship to prevent damage to the foundation and ensure a secure platform during construction.

Resolution:

A computer model was generated to analyze the weight distribution along the length and width of the ship. Flexibility of the ship along the length and flexibility of the foundation were considered. Multiple support layouts were analyzed until an acceptable weight distribution was attained. Individual supports were analyzed for the massive loads of the ship.
