Challenge:
A new De-Ionized Water Storage Tank and associated equipment, including an emergency diesel generator, are to be installed on a concrete mat and caisson foundation at the RE Ginna Nuclear Plant. Although the tank is designed to be exposed to the environment, the ultimate intent is to have the tank enclosed by a robust reinforced concrete building. The building will be designed to withstand environmental loads including Seismic Category I loads and tornado and tornado generated missile loads as specified in the Standard Review Plan. The enclosure building will be massive and is a key variable in the tank foundation design. The purpose of this calculation package is to provide a final building design.
Resolution:
Our engineering team includes sufficient details to size the building walls and roof, to design the primary reinforcement, and to identify the additional elements that contribute significant mass to the system, such as the wet concrete formwork support system.
