Challenge:
A roof analysis was requested for the atriums within a resort hotel. The purpose of the analysis was to determine the adequacy of the existing structures to resist the reaction forces imparted by a fall arrest system for personnel.
Resolution:
A computer model was created of the existing atrium roof truss structure. The existing dead loads and code required roof live loads were applied to the model, along with the reaction forces from the fall protection lifelines at predetermined places throughout the roof structure. The roof was analyzed and we determined that the roof was capable of withstanding these additional loads.
