Challenge:
An offshore platform is converting the crew quarters building from wood framing to steel. In order to verify that a heavier building is a viable option, the capacity of the production deck, which the quarters building rests on, needs to be determined.
Resolution:
A math model was made for the area of the production deck where the crew quarters building sits. The quarters building weight, including live loads, was applied to the production deck framing incrementally until the maximum capacity was reached. This capacity was then used by the owner as a design input for their new crew quarters building design.
